Darline Graham Nordone was formally chosen by South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster on Monday, who introduced her as Graham's "darling little sister" who would "finish his work for him now".
With Darline Graham as the replacement for the late Lindsey Graham, there may be little concern about policies, at least until the next election in 2027.
Elected to the Senate in 2002, Graham was one of Washington's most influential voices on foreign policy, often pushing for US military intervention overseas.
Lindsey Graham has always been an advocate for supporting Ukraine and Israel and a strong supporter of our military.
Many don’t see policy as changing within the ranks. Graham was considered one of the most pro-war people in Congress. He was often criticized for such a stance. His death will likely not create a more powerful stance for or against war.
Graham held influential positions, particularly on national security, judiciary, and budget issues. His committees would need new leadership or membership assignments.
Darline Nordone has never served in any office; however, she was constantly involved in Graham’s political career.
With the death of Graham and the absence of Mitch McConnell, the Republicans hold a slim lead in seats 52-47. The November election could determine who controls the Senate.
